City of Fort Myers, Florida
The City of Fort Myers Fire Department was founded in 1901. In the following nine decades of service, we have pioneered advances in the fire service in our region while keeping the level of service to our citizens as our first and foremost objective. In 1963, the Department's staff converted from volunteer to paid status. In 1972 the City of Fort Myers was chosen to conduct a pilot program for the State Fire College. Since that time, we have become a Regional Training Center for the State of Florida Fire Marshal's Office. |
The Fire Department is a full-service department, offering fire suppression, basic life support (BLS), public education, code enforcement, hazardous material response and mitigation, training, testing and water (fire boat) response. The Department, now known as Fire/Rescue, is also involved in summer youth programs that focus on at-risk youngsters. If you would like to become a member please download the Employment Packet (PDF document) and the City of Fort Myers Employment Application or contact us at fire@cityftmyers.com.
